 London houses more than 20 universities and a student population of over 300,000 people, so naturally a lot of you are interested in seeing how universities in the nation's capital fare. Here's our countdown of the top 5 universities in the great city of London:

 

1. London School of Economics and Political Science

Top in London and the 3rd best UK uni for another year, LSE certainly doesn’t have a bad reputation when it comes to the Complete University Guide. LSE specialises in the social sciences (most notably economics and politics) and has a truly global focus, in fact the student cohort has representatives from around 145 countries.

2. Imperial College London

Imperial keeps its chase on London rivals LSE; placing 1 rank behind in both the London and overall 2017 league tables. Imperial's graduates enjoy the highest chance of being in professional level employment or further study 6 months after leaving – 90.8% of last year’s were – both the highest in London and the whole of the UK.

A specialist in science, engineering, medicine and business, places at Imperial are highly sought after. 

3. University College London (UCL)

Set in the heart of Bloomsbury, UCL is worth a visit if just to see the famous philosopher, Jeremy Bentham’s preserved body, which is proudly on display in the university’s main building. The university has placed 3rd in London every year since we began publishing online in 2007.

4. King’s College London

London’s most central university, with four riverside campuses within 1 square mile, King’s is not to be missed. 5. Queen Mary, University of London

Queen Mary has been a permanent fixture in the top half of the London university league table every year since we began publishing, but this is only the uni’s second appearance in the London top 5. The university is well noted for its exceptional medical school and school of law, both of which incidentally rank highly in their respective subject tables.
